History of the World
The history of the world of I Reincarnated as a Goblin extends far beyond the civilizations and races of the present era.
Ancient Divine Beast bloodlines, mysterious Deviants, Gods, Titans, Outer Gods, Devils, continental barriers, migrations, and the rise and fall of entire civilizations have all shaped the modern world.
Much of this history has been lost, distorted into mythology, or deliberately forgotten. As a result, many inhabitants of the present world possess only fragments of what actually occurred.
Historical Overview
Primordial Era
An extremely ancient period associated with primordial creatures, extraordinary bloodlines, Divine Beasts, Deviants, and conflicts that occurred long before modern civilizations.
War of Gods and Titans
The ancient conflict between the Gods and the Titans, a powerful race whose extraordinary bodies were strengthened through primordial blood.
Outer Gods Crisis
The arrival of monsters and heralds associated with entities from outside the universe, bringing the corruptive force known as Monster Energy.
Devil Invasion
A later crisis involving Devils from another dimension and the Demonic Energy associated with them.
Barrier-Crossing Artifacts
The history of three extraordinary artifacts created by a powerful Dryad to cross the divine barriers separating the continents.
Ancient Migrations
The migrations that carried Elves, Giants, Half-Elves, Semi-Giants, Dark Elves, and Lycanthropes across continental barriers and changed the histories of several continents.
Before Recorded History
The oldest known periods of the world are only partially understood.
Ancient beings belonging to extraordinary lineages existed alongside entities later classified as Deviants.
Dragons, Phoenixes, Kunpeng, White Tigers, Black Tortoises, Unicorns, Giants, and other ancient beings were among the creatures associated with these distant eras.
However, ancient species and Deviants must not be confused with one another.
A Deviant could possess a form resembling another creature without actually belonging to that species or bloodline.
The Deviants
Deviants were extraordinary primordial entities whose forms did not necessarily represent their species or ancestry.
Nine confirmed levels of Deviants are known, with Level 9 representing the highest confirmed level.
A theoretical tenth level is believed to be possible, although no confirmed Level 10 Deviant is currently known.
Several ancient events involved exceptionally powerful Deviants whose remains or actions continued influencing the world long after their deaths.
The Dragon-Shaped Deviant
One known Level 9 Deviant possessed a form resembling a Dragon.
Despite its appearance, it was not a true Dragon.
Its remains became connected to the formation and extraordinary Mana environment of the Sacred Continent.
The Phoenix-Shaped Deviant
Another Level 9 Deviant possessed a form resembling a Phoenix.
It was likewise not a true Phoenix.
Its remains became connected to the supernatural nature of the Demonic Continent.
The Gods
The Gods became some of the most influential supernatural beings in the history of the world.
Over time, they learned to make use of Faith, a supernatural resource generated through sincere belief and worship.
Faith eventually became deeply connected to their continued existence and influence.
The Gods participated in several major conflicts, including wars against the Titans, the crisis involving the Outer Gods, and the later Devil invasion.
The Titans
The Titans were an ancient and extraordinarily powerful race.
Their greatest strength came from their bodies rather than conventional Mana development.
At some point in their history, the Titans obtained two drops of primordial blood and used them to further temper and strengthen their bodies.
Their growing power eventually contributed to a major conflict with the Gods.
War of Gods and Titans
The Gods and Titans eventually fought a devastating ancient war.
Despite the Titans' extraordinary physical power, the conflict ultimately ended in their defeat.
The full circumstances surrounding the war and its consequences belong to one of the oldest layers of recorded supernatural history.
The Outer Gods Crisis
Another ancient threat originated from outside the normal universe.
Entities known as the Outer Gods sent monsters and heralds carrying a corruptive supernatural force known as Monster Energy.
This energy could corrupt living creatures and transform them into Demonic Monsters.
The Gods responded to this threat by containing dangerous beings within supernatural prisons that became connected to the origin of Dungeons.
The Outer Gods themselves eventually entered the world, but later withdrew after another unknown force or being awakened.
The identity of whatever caused their retreat remains unknown.
The Devil Invasion
The Devils represented a completely separate threat from the Outer Gods.
They originated from another dimension and were associated with Demonic Energy, which is distinct from Monster Energy.
Their invasion became serious enough that the Gods were forced to unite against them.
During this crisis, the Gods temporarily restored powerful ancient beings belonging to genuine Dragon and Phoenix lineages.
These were true members of those ancient supernatural bloodlines and should not be confused with the Dragon-shaped and Phoenix-shaped Deviants.
The actions taken during this conflict had enormous consequences for the Gods themselves.
Demons
Demons emerged from the mixing of Devils and mortal races.
They are therefore descendants of Devils rather than pure Devils themselves.
Demons survived as an intelligent people and eventually became strongly associated with the Demonic Continent.
The Divine Barriers
The world's eight known continents are separated by powerful divine barriers.
These barriers made ordinary travel between continents effectively impossible and allowed populations to develop in isolation from one another.
Crossing them required extraordinary means.
Barrier-Crossing Artifacts
At some point in ancient history, a powerful Dryad created three artifacts capable of crossing the divine barriers.
These artifacts later became the center of conflicts and migrations that dramatically changed the population of several continents.
Elves and Giants eventually became involved in a costly struggle over the artifacts.
One artifact was lost, while the others were used in events that eventually connected several otherwise isolated continents.
Arrival in Muxuu
Elves and Giants eventually reached Muxuu, a continent already inhabited by Humans and Bararos.
Their arrival did not lead to peaceful coexistence.
The resulting interactions and conflicts eventually contributed to the emergence of two important mixed populations:
- Half-Elves — descendants of Humans and Elves.
- Semi-Giants — descendants of Humans and Giants.
These populations would later play a major role in the next wave of continental migrations.
Migration of the Half-Elves
A major Half-Elf population eventually left Muxuu using one of the Barrier-Crossing Artifacts.
They reached Disc, where they established themselves primarily in the central regions of the continent.
Not every Half-Elf left Muxuu.
Those who remained eventually reproduced with Humans over generations, contributing to Human populations carrying Elven Lineage.
Migration of the Semi-Giants
A major Semi-Giant population used another Barrier-Crossing Artifact to leave Muxuu.
They eventually reached Humel.
There they encountered a continent already inhabited by the Astals.
As with the Half-Elves, not every Semi-Giant abandoned Muxuu.
Descendants of those who remained were eventually assimilated into Human populations while preserving elements of Giant Lineage.
Dark Elf and Lycanthrope Migration
Dark Elves and Lycanthropes suffered severe losses through separate conflicts with their traditional enemies.
The Dark Elves had long fought the Elves, while the Lycanthropes had their own conflict with Vampires.
Under desperate circumstances, surviving groups eventually formed an alliance.
They later discovered the third Barrier-Crossing Artifact that had previously been lost.
Unlike earlier expeditions, their crossing was primarily an evacuation.
Children, elders, women, and others unable to remain on the front lines were prioritized for escape, while many capable fighters remained behind.
The refugees eventually reached Halvmen.
Loss of Ancient Knowledge
Continental migrations did not preserve every piece of knowledge possessed by the original populations.
Artifacts, techniques, possessions, historical records, and other forms of knowledge could disappear as civilizations fragmented or migrated.
Over enormous periods of time, real historical events became increasingly difficult to distinguish from myths and legends.
History and Myth
The modern world does not possess a complete understanding of its own history.
Ancient races and supernatural beings survived in stories long after reliable knowledge of them disappeared.
Humans in particular inherited fragmented legends concerning Elves, Giants, Dragons, Phoenixes, and other beings.
As those stories passed through generations, their original context was frequently distorted.
This sometimes causes modern people to interpret unfamiliar races or creatures according to ancient legends rather than their true classification.
César and Historical Knowledge
César occupies an unusual position in relation to this lost history.
Because he remembers information from the story he knew before his reincarnation, he possesses knowledge about future discoveries and ancient events that should normally be inaccessible during his current era.
However, his knowledge is not equivalent to omniscience.
Some information was incomplete, misunderstood, hidden, or never revealed even in the future he remembers.
As a result, discovering the true history of the world remains important even for César.
