Bestiary
The Bestiary contains information about the animals, beasts, monsters, and supernatural creatures that inhabit the world of I Reincarnated as a Goblin.
Not every large, dangerous, or supernatural creature belongs to the same category.
The world distinguishes ordinary animals, Mana Beasts, Divine Beasts, God-Created Monsters, Demonic Monsters, and Mental Beasts according to their origin and supernatural nature.
Creature Classifications
Animals
Ordinary animals that naturally possess only small amounts of Mana. Large size alone does not make an animal a Mana Beast.
Mana Beasts
Animals whose Mana has developed enough to strengthen, transform, or grant supernatural characteristics to their bodies.
Divine Beasts
Ancient and extraordinary supernatural bloodlines such as Dragons, Phoenixes, Golden Crows, Kunpeng, Black Tortoises, and White Tigers.
God-Created Monsters
Artificial monsters created by Gods and fundamentally different from naturally occurring beasts.
Demonic Monsters
Creatures corrupted by Monster Energy originating from the ancient monsters and heralds associated with the Outer Gods.
Mental Beasts
Rare creatures connected to Mental Power. Certain known Mental Beasts possess absolutely no detectable Mana.
Beasts and Monsters
The terms Beast and Monster are not interchangeable.
A beast may originate from a natural animal lineage and develop supernatural properties through Mana or other extraordinary conditions.
Monsters, by contrast, may possess artificial, corruptive, or otherwise abnormal origins.
A creature being dangerous or powerful does not automatically classify it as a Monster.
Animals and Mana
Most ordinary animals naturally possess at least a very small amount of Mana.
This alone does not classify them as Mana Beasts.
An animal becomes a Mana Beast when its Mana develops sufficiently to produce meaningful supernatural changes in its body or abilities.
The exact development of a Mana Beast can vary enormously between species and individuals.
Natural Size and Supernatural Growth
Physical size does not determine whether a creature is a Mana Beast.
Some ordinary animals may naturally grow to enormous sizes without possessing a supernatural growth Ability.
Similarly, an animal may possess a specific supernatural Ability that allows it to exceed the normal biological limits of its species.
These two forms of growth should not be confused.
Mana Beast Development
Mana Beasts do not always develop randomly.
Specialized knowledge exists for raising animals and Mana Beasts in ways that encourage particular supernatural traits.
Through carefully selected food, Mana-rich resources, plants, environments, and specialized training, it is possible to influence the direction of a creature's development.
This field is known as Beast Cultivation.
Beast Cultivation
Beast Cultivation is the discipline dedicated to the breeding, development, feeding, training, and supernatural advancement of animals and Mana Beasts.
Practitioners of this discipline are known as Beast Cultivators.
Their work can include:
- Raising ordinary animals toward Mana Beast development.
- Selecting Mana-rich foods and supernatural plants for particular species.
- Encouraging certain elemental affinities.
- Using specialized training to reinforce desired characteristics.
- Studying the conditions capable of awakening specific Abilities.
- Breeding animals whose traits are particularly suitable for a desired role.
Beast Cultivation does not mean that every desired result can be produced simply by feeding an animal Mana.
Different species possess different potentials, and particular changes may require very specific resources or methods.
Elemental Development
A Beast Cultivator may attempt to guide an animal toward a particular elemental specialization.
For example, a normal horse could be raised using Mana-rich resources, appropriate training, and methods intended to encourage Wind-related development.
If successful, the resulting Mana Beast could become especially suited to speed and movement.
The precise method depends on the animal, its potential, and the resources used during its development.
Ability Awakening
Some supernatural traits require more than ordinary Mana accumulation.
Certain foods, plants, or developmental conditions may allow a compatible animal to awaken a specific Ability.
Knowledge of these interactions is one of the most valuable aspects of Beast Cultivation.
A Beast Cultivator therefore does not merely make an animal stronger. They may attempt to guide what kind of Mana Beast the animal eventually becomes.
Green Pigs
Green Pigs are an important example of the distinction between natural development and specialized supernatural Abilities.
Their species is naturally capable of reaching very large sizes.
A mature individual may grow to the size of a bull or even larger without this growth necessarily being a supernatural Ability.
However, certain far more extreme developments require specialized conditions.
Extreme Growth
Green Pigs possess the potential for an extraordinary growth Ability capable of allowing them to reach sizes vastly beyond their normal biological limits.
This potential does not awaken naturally in every Green Pig.
A specific plant and the correct developmental method are required to awaken it.
At its extreme, this Ability can allow a Green Pig to grow to an enormous, mountain-like scale.
The official name of this Ability has not yet been established.
Flight
Green Pigs also possess the potential to develop a completely different Ability that allows them to fly.
This development requires a different plant and method from the one used for extreme growth.
The two examples demonstrate why Beast Cultivation depends on specialized knowledge rather than simply increasing the amount of Mana an animal receives.
César and Beast Cultivation
César possesses an unusual advantage when dealing with Mana Beasts.
Because of his knowledge of the future story, he already knows information that would normally require generations of experimentation and research.
This includes knowledge about particular animals, plants, developmental methods, and the conditions associated with certain supernatural Abilities.
As a result, César can reproduce advanced Beast Cultivation methods long before much of that knowledge would normally become widespread.
His experiments with Green Pigs are one example of how this future knowledge can be applied.
Beast Cultivator and Beast Tamer
A Beast Cultivator should not automatically be confused with a Beast Tamer.
Beast Cultivation focuses on development:
- Breeding
- Feeding
- Training
- Mana development
- Elemental specialization
- Ability awakening
Beast Taming, by contrast, would primarily concern the handling, domestication, control, or combat training of beasts.
The two fields may overlap, but they are not necessarily the same profession.
Known Divine Beasts
Known Divine Beast bloodlines include:
- Dragon
- Phoenix
- Golden Crow
- Kunpeng
- Black Tortoise
- White Tiger
Divine Beasts are not ranked simply by species name.
Bloodline purity is an important factor in determining the power and potential of individual descendants.
God-Created Monsters
God-Created Monsters are artificial beings created by the Gods.
They are not ordinary animals that became Mana Beasts.
Known characteristics include:
- Artificial divine origin.
- Limited intelligence.
- Wild behavior.
- Yellow blood.
- Solid Monster Cores.
Their Monster Cores and flesh may have value after appropriate processing.
They do not spread the corruptive Monster Energy associated with Demonic Monsters.
Demonic Monsters
Demonic Monsters originate through corruption by Monster Energy.
This energy is associated with the ancient monsters and heralds connected to the Outer Gods.
Before the corruption becomes irreversible, Mana may be capable of expelling the invading Monster Energy.
Demonic Monsters should not be confused with Demons.
Demons and Demonic Monsters are fundamentally different categories.
Mental Beasts
Mental Beasts represent another highly unusual classification.
Certain Mental Beasts possess absolutely no detectable Mana.
One known horse-like species is especially important because its unusual bond with intelligent beings eventually provides the foundation for the systematic development of Mental Cultivation.
Common Misconceptions
