Humel

Humel is one of the eight known continents of the world and the native homeland of the Astals.

The continent is characterized by extensive forests, high mountains, and elevated territories. Its two major known populations are the native Astals and the Semi-Giants who migrated there from Muxuu in ancient times.

Humel possesses a stable amount of natural Mana. Its Mana density is lower than that of Furex, but greater than the extremely Mana-poor continent of Lamtx.

Overview

Humel is a heavily forested and mountainous continent.

Vast forests cover much of its territory and are strongly associated with the Astal population, while its numerous mountains and elevated regions became favored territories of the Semi-Giants.

Unlike Lamtx, Humel is not exceptionally poor in Mana. Natural Mana is present throughout the continent at a stable level.

Geography

Two geographical features dominate much of Humel: extensive forests and high mountains.

Large forested regions spread across much of the continent, while mountain ranges and high-altitude territories rise throughout other areas.

These environments have also influenced the general distribution of Humel's two major known populations.

Forests

Extensive forests cover a large portion of Humel.

These forested territories are particularly associated with the Astals, the native inhabitants of the continent.

The forests form one of the most characteristic environments of Humel and contain a significant portion of its Astal population.

Mountains and High Lands

Humel contains numerous high mountains and elevated regions.

These territories are especially favored by Semi-Giants.

After their ancient migration to Humel, Semi-Giant populations became strongly associated with the continent's mountainous and high-altitude regions.

Mana

Humel possesses a stable, moderate concentration of natural Mana.

Its Mana density is lower than that of Furex but greater than that of Lamtx.

Humel should therefore not be considered a Mana-poor continent. Nevertheless, it does not possess the extraordinary Mana concentration found in the most Mana-rich continents of the world.

Continental Mana Comparison

Natural Mana varies considerably between the eight continents.

The Sacred Continent and Demonic Continent stand at the highest known level of Mana concentration.

Halvmen also possesses a very high overall concentration of Mana, despite César beginning his journey in one of its unusually Mana-poor regions.

Muxuu follows below Halvmen, while Furex, Humel, and Lamtx occupy lower positions.

The exact position of every continent within a complete numerical ranking has not yet been established.

Astals

Astals are the native inhabitants of Humel and lived on the continent before the arrival of the Semi-Giants.

They are physically powerful humanoids distinguished by their reddish skin, robust bodies, large canine teeth, and naturally sharp, claw-like nails.

Much of the Astal population is associated with Humel's extensive forests.

Astals and Mana

One of the most unusual aspects of the Astal race is their complete absence of Mana.

This characteristic belongs to the Astals themselves and should not be confused with the environmental conditions of Humel.

Humel contains Mana. Astals do not.

Even while living within an environment containing natural Mana, Astals cannot use Mana Cultivation because they possess no Mana of their own.

Anti-Mana

Despite lacking Mana, Astals possess an unusual energy that would later become known as Anti-Mana.

Anti-Mana is not Mana and should not be classified as a Mana element.

For much of Astal history, however, the race lacked a method capable of properly manifesting and using this energy.

Its true importance would only become understood much later.

Semi-Giants

Semi-Giants are not native to Humel.

The race originated on Muxuu through Human and Giant ancestry.

Following the ancient conflicts surrounding Half-Elves, Semi-Giants, Elves, Giants, and the Barrier-Crossing Artifacts, a major Semi-Giant population eventually left Muxuu.

Using one of the artifacts capable of crossing the Divine Barriers, they reached Humel and established themselves on the continent.

Semi-Giant Settlement

After arriving on Humel, Semi-Giants became particularly associated with mountainous and high-altitude territories.

Their preference for elevated regions created a geographical distinction between many Semi-Giant settlements and the forest territories strongly associated with Astals.

The exact political relationship between the two populations has not yet been fully revealed.

Population Distribution

Humel in the Original Timeline

Humel would eventually become the site of a devastating conflict involving the Astals and Humans.

In the original timeline known to César, Humans regarded the existence of a race completely incapable of using Mana as an unacceptable heresy.

The Astals were consequently targeted for extermination rather than simple conquest.

Despite possessing no Mana Cultivation, their extraordinary natural physical strength allowed them to resist far more effectively than might otherwise have been expected.

Nevertheless, the campaign placed the survival of the race in extreme danger.

Discovery of Anti-Mana

The true potential of the Astals was discovered only later in the original timeline.

A Human carrying Astal lineage was unable to use Mana and instead followed the path of Aura.

Through this path, it was eventually discovered that the strange energy associated with Astals could be imbued into Aura.

This energy became known as Anti-Mana.

The discovery revealed that the apparent supernatural weakness of the Astals concealed an extremely important form of power.

César's Knowledge

César knows about the future discovery of Anti-Mana because of his knowledge of the original story.

As a result, he understands the potential importance of the Astals long before the race itself possesses a proper method for utilizing its unique energy.

César considers them extremely valuable potential allies.

His knowledge of Aura also gives him something the Astals originally lacked: a developed path capable of allowing them to manifest their Anti-Mana through Aura.

Common Misconceptions

“Humel has no Mana because Astals have no Mana.”

Incorrect.

Humel possesses a stable amount of natural Mana. The complete absence of Mana is a characteristic of the Astal race itself.

“Astals have weak bodies because they cannot use Mana.”

Incorrect.

Astals possess extraordinary natural physical strength even without Mana reinforcement.

“Anti-Mana is a Mana element.”

Incorrect.

Anti-Mana is separate from Mana and is not part of the Mana elemental system.

“Semi-Giants are native to Humel.”

Incorrect.

Semi-Giants originated on Muxuu and migrated to Humel in ancient times. Astals inhabited Humel before their arrival.

“Astals originally knew how to use Anti-Mana.”

Incorrect.

The energy existed, but the Astals lacked a proper method for manifesting and utilizing it.
