Power System

I Reincarnated as a Goblin Wiki

The world of I Reincarnated as a Goblin contains multiple supernatural paths, energies, racial powers, and methods of personal development.

The four principal cultivation systems currently known are: Mana Cultivation, Aura Cultivation, Aether Cultivation, and Mental Cultivation.

Warning: This article contains information about cultivation systems and supernatural energies that may be revealed gradually throughout the story.

Overview

The major cultivation systems follow different principles and do not simply represent stronger versions of one another.

Their fundamental concepts can be summarized as follows:

  • Mana shapes reality.
  • Aura resists, wounds, and dominates reality.
  • Aether combines Mana and Aura into a unified path.
  • Mental Cultivation develops and optimizes the mind.

Each system possesses its own structure, requirements, advantages, and limitations.

The Four Major Cultivation Paths

Mana Cultivation

Mana Cultivation is one of the most widespread supernatural paths in the world.

Most living beings naturally possess at least some Mana, although the amount can vary enormously between races, species, individuals, and environments.

Mana Cultivation allows a practitioner to deliberately gather, refine, circulate, store, and transform Mana.

Its development involves internal structures such as Mana Veins, cores, elemental transformations, and increasingly refined states of Mana.

Mana Elements

At higher stages, Mana practitioners may develop affinity with particular elements.

Known Mana elements include:

  • Fire
  • Water
  • Wind
  • Earth
  • Metal
  • Lightning
  • Blood
  • Light
  • Time
  • Other rare elements

Blood is a Mana element.

Blood-based supernatural techniques should therefore not be confused with an entirely independent cultivation system.

Aura Cultivation

Aura Cultivation follows a different philosophy from Mana.

Rather than shaping reality through Mana, Aura is closely associated with will, martial intent, bodily refinement, and the practitioner's capacity to resist and impose themselves upon the world.

The path contains eight major phases of development.

Aura can exist independently of Mana, making the system particularly important for races or individuals who cannot rely on Mana Cultivation.

Aether Cultivation

Aether Cultivation is a path created through the combination of Mana and Aura.

It does not simply involve using the two systems at the same time.

Instead, Mana and Aura are eventually fused into a new force known as Aether.

This cultivation route is also associated with the Path of the Monarch.

Because it requires foundations in both Mana and Aura, its requirements are considerably more complex than following either path independently.

Mental Cultivation

Mental Cultivation develops the practitioner's mind rather than functioning primarily as a physical or elemental combat path.

It enhances cognition, concentration, perception, mental stability, and the capacity to process information.

At higher levels, Mental Cultivation can produce abilities that would normally be considered psychic or supernatural.

It can also function as a supplementary system alongside Mana, Aura, or Aether Cultivation.

Abilities

Not every supernatural power originates from cultivation.

The world contains several major categories of Abilities.

Innate Ability

An Innate Ability, also known as a Gift of the World, is obtained at birth.

It may appear in members of any race or species and is not necessarily connected to that race's normal characteristics.

Innate Abilities cannot normally be newly obtained later in life.

Racial Ability

A Racial Ability is connected directly to a particular race or racial lineage.

The frequency of a Racial Ability can vary enormously.

Some may appear in nearly every member of a race, while others may occur only rarely.

A single individual may possess more than one Racial Ability.

Acquired Ability

An Acquired Ability is obtained after birth.

Such abilities may be gained through several methods, including special supernatural objects, divine intervention, pacts, or other extraordinary circumstances.

Unlike Innate and Racial Abilities, Acquired Abilities are not fixed exclusively at birth.

Special Energies

Not every supernatural energy in the world belongs to Mana Cultivation.

Several distinct energies exist and must be treated separately.

Anti-Mana

Anti-Mana is an unusual energy associated with the Astals.

It is not Mana and is not a Mana element.

Astals possess no Mana of their own, yet they are connected to this separate energy.

Its practical use becomes possible through Aura rather than conventional Mana Cultivation.

Demonic Energy

Demonic Energy is associated with Devils, Demons, and the dimension from which the Devils originated.

It is separate from Mana and should not be treated as a Mana element.

Demonic Energy also differs from Monster Energy.

Monster Energy

Monster Energy is associated with the corruption caused by ancient monsters connected to the Outer Gods.

It is distinct from Mana and Demonic Energy.

Creatures corrupted by Monster Energy may become Demonic Monsters, despite the name not implying that they are Demons.

Relationship Between the Systems

The major power systems can interact, but they are not interchangeable.

System Core Principle Primary Focus
Mana Shapes Reality Mana, Elements, Internal Refinement
Aura Resists and Dominates Reality Will, Body, Martial Intent
Aether Fusion of Mana and Aura Unified Supernatural Development
Mental Develops the Mind Cognition, Perception, Psychic Development

Mana and Aura

Mana and Aura represent fundamentally different approaches to power.

Mana practitioners alter and influence the world through Mana.

Aura practitioners instead develop themselves, their will, their body, and their capacity to impose force against the world.

Neither system should automatically be considered universally superior to the other.

Aether as a Fusion Path

Aether requires the practitioner to possess foundations in both Mana and Aura.

The two forces eventually cease to exist as completely separate internal systems and are fused into Aether.

Because of this, Aether Cultivation represents a fundamentally different developmental path rather than merely alternating between Mana techniques and Aura techniques.

Mental Cultivation as a Supplementary Path

Mental Cultivation is unusual because it can support other cultivation systems without necessarily replacing them.

Improvements to focus, perception, thought speed, mental stability, and battlefield awareness can benefit practitioners regardless of whether their primary path is Mana, Aura, or Aether.

Race and Cultivation

Different races interact with supernatural systems in different ways.

Racial biology, natural Mana reserves, inherited abilities, environmental conditions, and cultural knowledge can all affect which cultivation paths are commonly practiced.

However, racial tendencies should not always be interpreted as absolute universal restrictions.

Some races may possess a natural advantage toward one path while still being capable of learning another under the correct conditions.

Important Exceptions

Although most living beings naturally contain Mana, important exceptions exist.

Astals, for example, possess absolutely no Mana.

Certain Mental Beasts are also known to possess no detectable Mana.

These exceptions demonstrate that Mana is extremely widespread but not completely universal.

Common Misconceptions

“Blood Magic is a separate cultivation system.”

Incorrect.

Blood is one of the known Mana elements and therefore belongs within Mana Cultivation.

“Anti-Mana is a Mana element.”

Incorrect.

Anti-Mana is a separate energy.

“Demonic Energy is corrupted Mana.”

Incorrect.

Demonic Energy originates from a different supernatural source and is distinct from Mana.

“Aura is simply Mana used by warriors.”

Incorrect.

Aura is an independent power system with different principles, development, and internal structures.

“Aether is just Mana and Aura being used simultaneously.”

Incorrect.

Aether is created through the actual fusion of Mana and Aura.

“Every supernatural power is a cultivation technique.”

Incorrect.

Innate, Racial, and Acquired Abilities can exist independently of a person's cultivation path.
