Abilities

I Reincarnated as a Goblin Wiki

Abilities are supernatural characteristics or powers possessed or acquired by living beings in the world of I Reincarnated as a Goblin.

Abilities are distinct from cultivation systems such as Mana, Aura, Aether, and Mental Cultivation.

While cultivation follows structured paths of progression, Abilities are individual powers that may be possessed from birth or obtained later through special circumstances.

Abilities are divided into three major categories:

  1. Innate Abilities
  2. Racial Abilities
  3. Acquired Abilities
Warning: This article contains information about abilities, Skill Books, and supernatural systems that may reveal elements beyond the current events of the main story.

Ability Classification

Category Obtained Main Characteristic
Innate Ability At birth Random Gift of the World
Racial Ability At birth Connected to the individual's race
Acquired Ability After birth Obtained through external means

Innate Abilities

An Innate Ability, also known as a Gift of the World, is an ability granted randomly at birth.

Innate Abilities are not restricted to one particular race.

Humans, Devilhumans, Demihumans, Semihumans, Beastkin, and members of other races may potentially be born with one.

Their appearance is rare and unpredictable.

Birth Restriction

Innate Abilities can only be obtained at birth.

Someone who was not born with a particular Innate Ability cannot later acquire that same power as a new Innate Ability.

Powers obtained later in life instead belong to other classifications, particularly Acquired Abilities.

Multiple Innate Abilities

An individual is not necessarily restricted to a single Innate Ability.

It is possible to be born with multiple Innate Abilities, although the existence of even one is already uncommon.

Racial Abilities

Racial Abilities are supernatural characteristics associated with a particular race.

Like Innate Abilities, they are determined at birth.

However, their defining characteristic is their connection to racial inheritance rather than a random Gift of the World.

Frequency

Not every Racial Ability has the same frequency.

Some may appear in almost every member of a race, while others may be extremely rare.

Rarity describes how frequently an ability appears and should not automatically be interpreted as a formal measure of its power.

Multiple Racial Abilities

An individual may possess more than one Racial Ability when their racial inheritance allows it.

Possessing one Racial Ability does not inherently prevent the existence of another.

Goblin Racial Abilities

Goblins provide useful examples of the difference between common and rare Racial Abilities.

Night Vision

Night Vision is an extremely common Goblin Racial Ability.

Nearly all Goblins possess it, although a small number may be born without it.

Lustful Smoke

Lustful Smoke is a much rarer Goblin Racial Ability.

It manifests as a visible pink smoke and possesses an unusual influence over females while having no effect on males.

The ability can potentially appear in any Goblin at birth.

Within certain Goblin societies, a bearer of this rare ability may even be recognized as a candidate for kingship.

Gab is a known bearer of Lustful Smoke.

Other Known Racial Abilities

Racial Abilities are not exclusive to Goblins.

Different races possess their own inherited supernatural characteristics, some common and others considerably rarer.

Mana Digestion

Mana Digestion is a Racial Ability associated with Pigmen.

It allows them to exploit consumed food and materials with extraordinary digestive efficiency.

When combined with Mana cultivation, the ability becomes particularly useful when consuming Mana-rich food.

Adaro Earth Movement

A relatively rare Racial Ability is known among Adaros.

Approximately one in ten Adaros may possess the ability to submerge into earth and move through it in a manner comparable to swimming through water.

The ability is fundamentally different from ordinary digging.

Its final official name has not yet been established.

Prehistoric Manifestation

The unnamed Prehistoric Race historically associated with Disc possessed an extraordinary female-exclusive Racial Ability.

A female bearer could manifest the prehistoric creature corresponding to her lineage around herself.

The manifestation possessed an unusual nature that could appear intangible while still producing tangible effects.

Through it, the bearer could express strength and characteristics associated with creatures such as Tyrannosaurus rex, Spinosaurus, Mammoths, Saber-Toothed Tigers, and other prehistoric lineages.

The official name of this Racial Ability has not yet been revealed.

Acquired Abilities

Acquired Abilities are fundamentally different from Innate and Racial Abilities.

They are obtained after birth.

This means an individual who was born without a particular supernatural gift may still obtain new Abilities later in life through specific external methods.

Known Acquisition Methods

Known methods of obtaining Acquired Abilities include:

  • Skill Books
  • Pacts or service to Gods
  • Direct divine gifts

These methods do not transform the resulting power into an Innate or Racial Ability.

Its classification remains Acquired Ability.

Number of Acquired Abilities

There is no known inherent numerical limit to the number of Acquired Abilities an individual may possess.

This distinguishes them from systems whose progression is determined by a fixed sequence of cultivation realms.

Skill Books

Skill Books are supernatural objects capable of granting Acquired Abilities.

They are closely associated with the reward systems found within Dungeons.

Obtaining and using a Skill Book can grant an individual a supernatural Ability that they did not possess at birth.

The resulting power is classified as an Acquired Ability.

Abilities and Cultivation

Abilities and cultivation are related but separate concepts.

Learning Mana Cultivation does not automatically count as obtaining an Acquired Ability.

Similarly, awakening Aura or progressing through Mental Cultivation does not turn those cultivation systems into Racial or Innate Abilities.

A cultivator can possess several different types of Abilities while also progressing through one or more cultivation systems.

Racial Ability vs. Racial Trait

Not every physical characteristic associated with a race should automatically be treated as a named Racial Ability.

Anatomy, appearance, natural physical characteristics, and supernatural Racial Abilities are not necessarily the same thing.

A race may therefore possess distinctive biological characteristics without every characteristic being classified as a separate Racial Ability.

Human Lineage Assimilation

Humans possess an unusual racial advantage commonly described as Human Lineage Assimilation.

Humans are exceptionally compatible with many intelligent races.

Mixed descendants may initially form recognizable mixed races, but repeated reproduction with Humans over subsequent generations can eventually result in descendants once again being classified as Human.

Importantly, characteristics inherited from the other lineage do not necessarily disappear during this process.

A Human carrying Elven, Giant, or another compatible lineage may continue to inherit characteristics or abilities originating from that ancestry.

Human Lineage Assimilation should not be confused with an Acquired Ability obtained later in life.

Inheritance

Racial inheritance can influence which characteristics and Racial Abilities appear in descendants.

The exact result depends on the races and lineages involved.

The existence of mixed races, inherited lineages, and Human Lineage Assimilation demonstrates that supernatural inheritance can continue across many generations.

Common Misconceptions

“Every Ability is an Innate Ability.”

Incorrect.

Innate, Racial, and Acquired Abilities are separate classifications.

“Racial Abilities must appear in every member of a race.”

Incorrect.

Some are nearly universal, while others appear only in a small percentage of the population.

“A rare Racial Ability must be stronger than a common one.”

Incorrect.

Rarity refers to frequency, not an official power ranking.

“Acquired Abilities must be present from birth.”

Incorrect.

Their defining characteristic is precisely that they can be obtained after birth.

“Skill Books teach normal techniques.”

Not necessarily.

Skill Books can directly grant Acquired Abilities.

“Cultivation realms are Abilities.”

Incorrect.

Cultivation systems and Abilities are separate supernatural classifications.

“Human Lineage Assimilation and Acquired Abilities are the same.”

Incorrect.

Human Lineage Assimilation is connected to Human racial inheritance, whereas Acquired Abilities are obtained after birth through external means.
