Mana Beasts

Mana Beasts are animals whose natural Mana has developed sufficiently to produce meaningful supernatural changes in their bodies or capabilities.

Most ordinary animals already possess small amounts of Mana. The difference is that, in a Mana Beast, this Mana has developed far enough to actively strengthen or transform the creature.

Mana Beast development can occur naturally, but it can also be deliberately influenced through specialized breeding, feeding, resources, and training.

Overview

Mana Beasts are not a completely separate form of life from ordinary animals.

Instead, they originate when the Mana present within an animal develops beyond its ordinary condition and begins producing supernatural effects.

These effects can differ enormously depending on the species, individual, environment, resources, and direction of development.

From Animal to Mana Beast

Most animals possess only a small amount of naturally occurring Mana.

Under suitable circumstances, that Mana can develop further.

Once this development produces meaningful supernatural changes, the creature can be classified as a Mana Beast.

This distinction is based on supernatural development rather than simple appearance or size.

Natural Development

Mana Beasts can arise naturally without intervention from intelligent races.

Animals exposed to suitable conditions and resources may gradually develop their Mana and acquire characteristics beyond the ordinary limits of their species.

The exact result is not universal. Different animal species possess different potentials and can respond differently to similar conditions.

Directed Development

Mana Beast development does not have to be left entirely to chance.

Intelligent races eventually developed specialized knowledge for guiding the supernatural development of animals.

By controlling factors such as diet, Mana-rich resources, particular plants, environment, breeding, and training, it is possible to encourage specific developmental paths.

This discipline is known as Beast Cultivation.

Beast Cultivation

Beast Cultivation is a specialized discipline concerned with raising, breeding, feeding, training, and directing the development of animals and Mana Beasts.

A practitioner of this profession is known as a Beast Cultivator.

Beast Cultivators study the relationship between animal species and the conditions capable of influencing their supernatural development.

Knowledge of Species

One of the most important aspects of Beast Cultivation is understanding that every species possesses different potential.

A resource capable of producing a remarkable result in one species may produce a completely different result, or no useful result at all, in another.

Beast Cultivators therefore require knowledge of the animals themselves, not merely knowledge of Mana.

Specialized Feeding

Diet is one of the tools available to a Beast Cultivator.

Mana-rich foods can assist the supernatural development of compatible animals, while particular plants and other resources may be required for far more specific results.

Some hidden Abilities can only be awakened when the correct species is raised using the appropriate resource and developmental method.

Training

Training can also be used to guide Mana Beast development.

Rather than merely making an animal physically stronger, specialized training can be combined with feeding and Mana development to encourage characteristics suited to a particular purpose.

Elemental Development

One possible objective of Beast Cultivation is encouraging a Mana Beast toward a particular elemental development.

This requires more than simply exposing an animal to Mana.

The animal's own potential, its diet, resources, and training must all be considered.

Wind-Oriented Horse

A horse provides a simple example.

A normal horse can be deliberately raised with Mana and specialized training intended to encourage development related to the Wind element.

Such development can be directed toward enhancing the qualities for which the animal is being raised, such as its running speed.

The objective is therefore not merely to produce a stronger horse, but to cultivate a Mana Beast suited to a specific role.

Ability Awakening

Some animal species possess hidden supernatural potential that does not normally manifest.

Under the correct developmental conditions, a Beast Cultivator may help awaken one of these latent Abilities.

Particular plants or other resources can play an essential role in such awakenings.

Knowing which resource corresponds to which species and potential Ability is therefore extremely valuable knowledge.

Natural Traits vs. Awakened Abilities

Beast Cultivation requires distinguishing between the natural characteristics of an animal species and genuine supernatural Abilities.

An animal may naturally be extremely large, fast, strong, or durable without possessing an Ability responsible for that characteristic.

An awakened Ability can instead allow the animal to exceed those normal limits or develop a capability that the ordinary species does not possess.

Green Pigs

Green Pigs provide an important example of this distinction.

Green Pigs are naturally capable of becoming extremely large animals. Individuals can reach approximately the size of a bull or even exceed it through their ordinary biological growth.

That size alone is not a supernatural Ability.

Mountain-Scale Growth

Green Pigs also possess a hidden potential for an entirely different level of growth.

Through the use of a particular plant and the correct developmental conditions, it is possible to awaken a supernatural growth Ability.

This Ability can eventually allow the creature to reach an extraordinary, mountain-like scale far beyond the normal limits of Green Pigs.

The official name of this Ability has not yet been established.

Flight

Another developmental path can allow a Green Pig to acquire the ability to fly.

This requires a different specific plant from the one associated with extraordinary growth.

The existence of these separate possibilities demonstrates one of the fundamental principles of Beast Cultivation:

The same species can possess multiple possible developmental paths depending on the resources and methods used to raise it.

Developmental Specialization

Mana Beasts can therefore be deliberately developed for different purposes.

One member of a species might be raised toward speed, another toward a particular element, while another might be developed in an attempt to awaken a species-specific Ability.

The final result depends on the potential of the creature and the method used during its development.

Breeding

Breeding is another important part of Beast Cultivation.

Beast Cultivators can select animals with desirable characteristics and use them as the foundation for future generations.

This makes the profession relevant not only to individual creatures but also to the long-term development of useful animal populations.

Beast Cultivator vs. Beast Tamer

A Beast Cultivator and a Beast Tamer should not automatically be treated as the same profession.

Beast Cultivation primarily concerns the creature's development:

• Breeding
• Feeding
• Mana development
• Specialized training
• Elemental development
• Ability awakening

Beast Taming is instead primarily associated with handling, domesticating, controlling, and training beasts.

The two disciplines can overlap, and an individual may possess knowledge of both.

César's Knowledge

César possesses an enormous advantage in Beast Cultivation because of his memories of the story he knew before his reincarnation.

Many Beast Cultivation methods represent knowledge that would normally require extensive experimentation and accumulated experience to discover.

César already knows about some of the relationships between particular species, plants, resources, and supernatural developments.

This allows him to reproduce certain methods far earlier than they would otherwise become known in his surroundings.

Green Pig Project

César applies this knowledge to Green Pigs.

Rather than viewing them merely as unusually large livestock, he knows that their species possesses developmental possibilities that others around him may not recognize.

By obtaining the appropriate resources, he can attempt to deliberately cultivate Green Pigs toward abilities such as flight and extraordinary growth.

Mana Beasts and Abilities

Not every supernatural characteristic of a Mana Beast should automatically be treated as a separate Ability.

Mana itself can strengthen or transform an animal in ways that become part of its developed condition.

Other characteristics may instead represent distinct Abilities awakened through particular developmental conditions.

The distinction depends on the nature of the specific creature and development involved.

Mana Beasts Are Not Monsters

Mana Beasts should not automatically be classified as Monsters.

They originate from natural animal life whose Mana has developed.

This fundamentally separates them from classifications such as God-Created Monsters and Demonic Monsters.

A Mana Beast may be extremely dangerous, but danger alone does not make a creature a Monster.

Mana Beasts and Divine Beasts

Mana Beasts should also not be confused with Divine Beasts.

Divine Beasts belong to extraordinary ancient bloodlines such as Dragons, Phoenixes, Golden Crows, Kunpeng, Black Tortoises, and White Tigers.

An ordinary animal developing its Mana does not become a Divine Beast simply by growing sufficiently powerful.

Common Misconceptions

“Any animal with Mana is a Mana Beast.”

Incorrect.

Most ordinary animals already possess small amounts of Mana.

“A Mana Beast is simply a very large animal.”

Incorrect.

Classification depends on supernatural Mana development, not physical size.

“Beast Cultivation means feeding animals as much Mana as possible.”

Incorrect.

Species, resources, plants, training, environment, and the desired development all matter.

“Every species can awaken the same Abilities.”

Incorrect.

Different species possess different developmental potential.

“Beast Cultivators and Beast Tamers are identical.”

Incorrect.

Their fields can overlap, but Beast Cultivation is specifically concerned with developing the creature itself.

“A Mana Beast can eventually become a Divine Beast.”

Not simply through ordinary Mana development.

Divine Beasts are associated with specific extraordinary bloodlines rather than being the next universal stage of Mana Beasts.
