Adaros are an intelligent Devilhuman race inhabiting the rivers, surrounding lands, and underground regions of Halvmen.
Although they share an aquatic environment with Murlocs, Adaros are considerably more versatile on land and can remain away from water for much longer periods.
Approximately one in every ten Adaros is born with an unusual racial ability that allows them to submerge into the ground and move through earth as though they were swimming through water.
Overview
Adaros are amphibious Devilhumans adapted to several different environments.
They are capable of living in water, traveling extensively across land, and inhabiting underground environments.
This adaptability distinguishes them from Murlocs, whose bodies are considerably more dependent on regular access to moisture.
Adaros are associated with the opposite side of the river near César's current region, where the territories with greater Mana concentrations begin.
Classification
Adaros belong to the broader racial classification known as Devilhumans.
They are distinct from Demihumans, Semihumans, Beastkin, Humans, and other major racial groups.
Appearance
Adaros possess humanoid bodies combined with aquatic and reptilian-like characteristics.
Their bodies may display scales, fin-like structures, sharp teeth, claws, and other adaptations useful in aquatic and humid environments.
Despite their aquatic nature, Adaros do not possess tails.
Male Adaros
Male Adaros generally possess larger, more muscular bodies and more pronounced non-human features.
Their heads and faces can appear considerably more bestial, with scales, powerful jaws, sharp teeth, and other traits associated with the race.
Female Adaros
Female Adaros possess a considerably more humanoid appearance while retaining visible racial characteristics.
These can include patches of scales, aquatic ear structures, sharp teeth, and other traits associated with their amphibious biology.
Sexual Dimorphism
Adaros display pronounced sexual dimorphism.
Males generally possess a larger and more overtly bestial appearance, while females retain substantially more humanoid facial and bodily proportions.
Amphibious Physiology
Adaros are naturally capable of living both in water and on land.
Unlike Murlocs, they can remain away from rivers and other bodies of water for considerably longer periods.
This allows Adaros to travel farther inland and occupy territories that would be much less comfortable for Murlocs.
They nevertheless remain strongly associated with aquatic environments and are highly capable swimmers.
Underground Adaptation
Adaros are also capable of inhabiting underground environments.
This gives the race access to another habitat beyond the rivers and surface territories normally associated with amphibious races.
Their ability to function in underground regions should not be confused with their special earth-swimming racial ability, which only appears in a portion of the population.
Swimming
Adaros are powerful and capable swimmers.
However, in terms of pure swimming speed, Murlocs possess a slight advantage.
A typical Murloc is therefore somewhat faster in open water than a typical Adaro.
The Adaro advantage lies instead in environmental versatility and their ability to operate effectively much farther away from water.
Racial Abilities
Earth Swimming
Approximately one in every ten Adaros is born with a rare racial ability commonly described as Earth Swimming.
An Adaro possessing this ability can submerge directly into the ground and move through earth in a manner resembling swimming through water.
This is fundamentally different from ordinary digging.
The user does not need to physically excavate a conventional tunnel in order to move forward. Instead, the ground itself can be traversed as though it were an aquatic medium.
While moving through earth in this manner, an Adaro can reach speeds comparable to its normal swimming speed in water.
Rarity
Earth Swimming is not universal among Adaros.
Only approximately ten percent of the race is born with the ability, making individuals who possess it significantly different from ordinary members of their species in terms of mobility.
Environmental Mobility
The combination of aquatic, terrestrial, and underground adaptation makes Adaros unusually versatile.
A normal Adaro can operate in rivers, move across land for extended periods, and inhabit underground environments.
An Adaro born with Earth Swimming gains an additional method of movement by being able to travel directly beneath the surface at considerable speed.
Relationship with the Murlocs
Adaros and Murlocs are rival aquatic Devilhuman races associated with different sides of the river near César's region.
The Murlocs dominate much of the river on the poorer side, while Adaros are associated with the opposite side where the territories with higher Mana concentrations begin.
Their capabilities overlap, but neither race is simply a superior version of the other.
Murlocs possess a slight advantage in pure swimming speed, while Adaros possess considerably greater freedom of movement away from water.
Adaros born with Earth Swimming gain an additional advantage that Murlocs normally lack: rapid movement directly through the ground.
Comparison with Murlocs
| Trait | Murloc | Adaro |
|---|---|---|
| Aquatic Life | Yes | Yes |
| Land Travel | Limited by dehydration | Considerably greater endurance |
| Underground Habitat | Not characteristic | Yes |
| Swimming Speed | Slightly faster | Slightly slower |
| Earth Swimming | No | Approximately 1 in 10 |
| Tail | — | None |
Territory
Adaros are associated with the territories beyond the river near César's current region.
This area marks the beginning of lands with greater Mana concentrations and increasingly powerful races.
Their presence therefore represents one of the dangers that must be considered when attempting to move from the poorer region toward the more powerful areas of Halvmen.
Mana
Like nearly all living beings, Adaros naturally possess Mana.
Naturally possessing Mana does not necessarily mean that every Adaro understands conscious Mana manipulation or cultivation.
Known Adaros
Known individual Adaros will be added as they are introduced and their information becomes available.
