Lizardman

Lizardmen are a Devilhuman race native to Halvmen. They are powerful reptilian humanoids known for their durable scales, excellent night vision, ability to fight effectively in aquatic environments, and exceptional skill with spears.

Although they have a strong preference for swamps and other humid environments, Lizardmen are not dependent on them and are capable of establishing themselves in many different habitats.

Overview

Lizardmen possess a combination of physical durability and strong predatory senses that makes them dangerous warriors.

Their bodies are naturally covered in protective scales, while their ability to remain underwater for long periods allows them to fight in environments that would severely restrict many terrestrial races.

Lizardman society is predominantly governed by males.

Appearance

Lizardmen possess reptilian characteristics including scales, tails, claws, and other traits associated with large reptiles.

The race displays considerable sexual dimorphism. Males possess a much more heavily reptilian and bestial appearance, while females have a more humanoid upper-body appearance while retaining scales, a large tail, and other reptilian features.

Male Lizardmen

Male Lizardmen possess heavily developed reptilian characteristics and powerful physiques. Their bodies are covered by thick scales that provide considerable natural protection.

Males traditionally occupy most positions of authority within Lizardman communities.

Female Lizardmen

Female Lizardmen possess a considerably more humanoid appearance than males while retaining clear reptilian traits.

Their bodies remain partially covered in scales and possess the powerful tail characteristic of the race.

Habitat

Lizardmen have a strong preference for swamps, wetlands, and humid environments.

However, this preference should not be confused with an environmental dependency. Lizardmen are capable of living outside wetlands and can establish themselves in other environments without requiring constant access to swamp terrain.

Natural Armor

One of the most important natural characteristics of the Lizardman body is its protective covering of scales.

These scales function as a form of Natural Armor, allowing Lizardmen to withstand considerably more punishment than an unprotected humanoid body.

Natural Armor is a biological characteristic of the race rather than their Racial Ability.

Night Vision

Lizardmen possess naturally excellent vision in darkness.

This allows them to operate effectively at night and inside poorly illuminated environments without relying on a special Racial Ability.

This differs from Goblins, whose ability to see effectively in darkness is associated with a racial ability.

Aquatic Capabilities

Although Lizardmen are not an aquatic race, their physiology allows them to remain underwater for extended periods by holding their breath for a remarkably long time.

As a result, underwater combat does not represent the same disadvantage to a Lizardman that it would to many other terrestrial races.

This does not mean that Lizardmen breathe underwater. Their advantage comes from their ability to remain without breathing for prolonged periods.

Combat

Lizardmen are accomplished warriors whose physical characteristics make them suitable for both terrestrial and underwater combat.

Their scales provide natural protection, their senses make ambushes more difficult, and their ability to remain underwater gives them considerable flexibility when fighting around swamps, rivers, and other bodies of water.

Spear Mastery

Lizardmen are particularly renowned for their skill with spears.

The spear is one of the weapons most strongly associated with their warriors, and Lizardmen develop considerable proficiency in its use.

Its reach also complements their fighting style in wetlands and other environments where maintaining distance from an opponent can be valuable.

Racial Ability

Predatory Senses

The characteristic Racial Ability of the Lizardmen is known as Predatory Senses.

Predatory Senses enhances their ability to perceive nearby threats and enemies, making it considerably more difficult to approach a Lizardman without being noticed.

The ability is particularly useful for detecting danger before an attack begins and gives Lizardmen a considerable advantage when navigating potentially hostile environments.

The exact detection range and limitations of Predatory Senses are not currently known.

Reproduction

Lizardmen are an oviparous race. Their natural reproductive cycle results in eggs from which their young eventually emerge.

Society

Traditional Lizardman communities are predominantly governed by males.

Their culture places considerable importance on warriors and martial ability, with spear fighting being particularly associated with the race.

Original Timeline

The future introduction of the Monster Crystal fundamentally altered the reproduction of the Devilhuman races.

Like other Devilhumans affected by this system, female Lizardmen eventually ceased to be born.

Lizardmen responded differently from several other races. They did not develop a strong preference for capturing Human women. Instead, after the Monster Crystal expanded their reproductive compatibility, Lizardmen generally preferred compatible reptilian creatures.

Large lizards and crocodilians were among the creatures they sought for this purpose.

This behavior became one of the unusual ways in which Lizardman communities attempted to continue reproducing after the disappearance of their own females.
