Dark Elves are an ancient Demihuman race with a long history of conflict with Elves.
During an ancient crisis, part of the Dark Elf population formed an alliance with the Lycanthropes and escaped across the divine continental barriers, eventually establishing a population in Halvmen.
Not all Dark Elves escaped. Many capable fighters remained behind, and Dark Elves continued to exist outside Halvmen after the migration.
Overview
Dark Elves are a Demihuman race related historically to the Elves, although the two peoples became bitter enemies.
Their history eventually became intertwined with that of the Lycanthropes when both races found themselves facing increasingly dangerous enemies.
This alliance ultimately resulted in a large-scale evacuation that brought a portion of both populations to Halvmen.
Classification
Dark Elves belong to the broad racial group known as Demihumans.
They are distinct from Devilhumans, Semihumans, Beastkin, Humans, and other major racial classifications.
Appearance
Dark Elves possess predominantly humanoid bodies.
Their most recognizable characteristics include long pointed ears similar in general structure to those of Elves and darker skin coloration.
Hair color, eye color, facial features, and other individual characteristics can vary between members of the race.
The official racial illustration therefore represents one possible Dark Elf appearance rather than a universal appearance shared by every individual.
Mana
Like nearly all living beings, Dark Elves naturally possess Mana.
Dark Elves are capable of learning conscious Mana manipulation and magical techniques when provided with the appropriate knowledge and training.
Asia, for example, possesses practical knowledge of spells and Mana manipulation.
Conflict with the Elves
Dark Elves and Elves possess a long history of hostility.
Their conflict eventually became part of a wider period of warfare involving multiple peoples.
As the situation deteriorated and their losses increased, the Dark Elves found themselves in an increasingly dangerous position.
Alliance with the Lycanthropes
The Lycanthropes were facing their own enemies and severe losses during the same general period.
Dark Elves and Lycanthropes eventually formed an alliance in order to improve their chances of survival.
The alliance came late, after both peoples had already suffered considerably.
The Lost Barrier-Crossing Artifact
Long before these events, three extraordinary artifacts had existed with the ability to cross the divine barriers separating the continents.
Two became involved in the migrations associated with Half-Elves and Semi-Giants, while the third had been lost.
During their crisis, the Dark Elves and Lycanthropes discovered this lost third artifact.
Its discovery gave the two endangered peoples an opportunity to escape beyond the continental barriers.
Evacuation
The journey that followed was not an ordinary expedition.
It was a desperate evacuation.
Dark Elves and Lycanthropes prioritized the evacuation of those who could no longer reasonably remain on the front lines, including children, elders, women, and others who needed to be removed from the conflict.
Meanwhile, many capable fighters remained behind to continue resisting their enemies and protect the evacuation.
The refugees who successfully crossed the barrier eventually arrived in Halvmen.
Those Who Remained
The migration did not remove every Dark Elf or Lycanthrope from their previous lands.
Many of the individuals who remained behind were powerful enough to continue fighting.
These surviving populations continued to exist separately from the refugees who had traveled to Halvmen.
As a result, the later disappearance of the Halvmen populations should not be interpreted as the extinction of either race as a whole.
Dark Elves in Halvmen
The Dark Elf refugees established themselves in Halvmen alongside the Lycanthropes who had escaped with them.
Over time, these populations became separated from their distant relatives who had remained behind.
By the era in which César is currently living, Dark Elves still exist within Halvmen.
Original Future Timeline
César was reincarnated decades before the events of the story he had read during his previous human life.
In that original future timeline, the Dark Elf population that had migrated to Halvmen had already become extinct by the relevant period of the story.
This did not mean that Dark Elves everywhere had become extinct.
Dark Elves outside the extinct Halvmen population still existed.
Because César now lives decades before the future he remembers, he has encountered members of populations that had already disappeared by the beginning of the history familiar to him.
The Later Elven Expedition
At some point after the migration, a group of Elves was sent in the direction taken by the Dark Elf and Lycanthrope refugees.
The group never returned.
The exact fate of this expedition remains unknown.

- Asia — A Dark Elf captured by Gab Gron during an expedition. After César replaced his father as the settlement's authority, he discovered Asia and eventually made her an ally. Her practical knowledge of Mana later helped César advance his own understanding of magic.
